Lubbock and Amarillo District Texas Riders hosted a “Support the Blue Ride” event at the Wild West Harley Davidson Center Saturday morning to show they are behind law enforcement.
Lubbock Police, the Sheriff’s Department, Lubbock Firefighters, local motorcycle chapters, and individual riders made up about one hundred people volunteering to ride together to “Back the Blue.”
Free police blue ribbons were given to each person to tie on their bike before the ride at 10 a.m.
“That was pretty awesome to see everyone come together and to see all the support that we had,” local resident Veronica Pickering said. “So I was pretty excited to see the Sheriff’s Department and Police Department of course being escorted by them so that’s pretty awesome.”
Pickering said she has grown up with officers in her family and is now married to a Lubbock Firefighter.
“All my family has been law enforcement so I support, I am big on law enforcement. We’ve always backed everybody up and we’ll always back everybody up,” Pickering said.
Pickering said supporting law enforcement is a family tradition.
“My dad’s been law enforcement, my brother’s law enforcement so I have special ties to it so of course I’m always going to back them up no matter what.”
The ride went around downtown Lubbock, including the police department building, and finished back at Wild West Harley Davidson Center.
Lubbock and Amarillo District Texas Riders officials said all of the donations collected at the event will be donated to Assist the Officer Foundation/Dallas.
