Local residents gathered at Crescent Park in Littlefield to support local law enforcement Saturday morning.
Resident Autumn Pickard said she was inspired to create the event after recent tragedies in Dallas. She said she wants to make a difference in her community.
“We are appreciative of what you’ve done for us,” Pickard. “We’re really glad that you’re here to help us, save us, you know, when we need it.”
Including Pickard, a few more people who came out to participate have family ties to law enforcement. Pickard said she has an uncle who is a retired sheriff.
Another Littlefield resident, Ron Madeiros, has two sons who are California Highway Patrol officers and another son looking to apply to be a police officer.
Madeiros said he’s becoming more fearful for his children with recent tragedies across the nation.
“The people who are probably good people, who are going against all of this, going against the police forces,” Madeiros said. “That’s what’s scary. We already know that the criminals are against them. But when the good people start going against them, that’s getting scary.”
The Littlefield Police Department and Lamb County Sheriff’s Office also showed up to participate in the event.
“That’s like the most wonderful feeling in the whole, that hey you know there are people here that really want to support, they really want to show their love and appreciation,” Pickard said. “For them to have the same feelings that I do is just wonderful.”
