Local Veteran to Give Back on Memorial Day, Will Mow Lawns for the Needy Free of Charge

Former Marine Corporal Julian Barraza will be mowing lawns for local veterans, the disabled, the elderly and anyone else who may have fallen on hard times on Memorial Day, free of charge.

“My hopes are to do as many lawns as possible and to help out as many people as possible,” Barraza said. “That’s my ultimate goal, to show them that you do have a neighbor that cares.”

Last summer, Barraza started mowing lawns for the needy and was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from the community.  He is hoping this year will be even bigger.

“When I was in Iraq, the two times that I did go, it made me feel proud and I came back and went through a lot of hard times,” Barraza said. “So getting back out there and serving my community makes me feel back to where I used to be.”

Barraza said helping out your neighbor is a great way to honor our veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice.

“There’s no better way to show somebody that you care than to get out there in 90-degree weather and do hard labor for free and not ask for anything, that’s what neighbors do,” Barraza said.

He is even getting some help from his 12-year-old son Alex, but they are looking for even more volunteers so they can help out as many as possible throughout the city.

“I really don’t consider it work I consider it fun,” Alex Barraza said. “It’s nice to get out there and get exercise and get out of the house.”

Barazza said if you want to volunteer to mow lawns with him on Memorial Day or if you know of someone who may need their law mowed to contact him on his Facebook page or through his friends at the West Texas Camaro club.
