One local woman has dedicated her life to saving the mass amount of stray and dumped dogs across the South Plains.
“Myself and my friends probably get notified of at least 50-100 animals a week,” Angie Skinner, a local “dog rescuer” said.
Skinner has an everyday job but said she started catching and re-homing stray dogs several years ago because there are so many dumped dogs around Lubbock.
“When I’m not at work we do this all day everyday. We are working to try and catch them. We recently invested in a trap and we had one donated and that has been a huge blessing,” Skinner said.
Outside the City of Lubbock, Skinner lives on some land within the county. She said she has had up to 40 dogs at once living at her home.
“Right now we have 16 dogs which is down from what we have. If we can find fosters or take animals in ourselves, then we can get them vetting and they are able to find homes and be adopted out,” Skinner said.

Skinner works with a handful of shelters not only here in Texas but in other states as well. She said the shelters help a lot with the financial part but a lot of it still comes out of her pocket.
“The rescues help and they always need help, a ton of it comes out of our own pockets so we have jobs as well to help fund it. But they are able to ship dogs up to rescues in Colorado, because they don’t have the problem like Lubbock has. They have very strict Spay and Neuter laws, which is something I hope Lubbock has one day,” Skinner said.

If you are interested in fostering or adopting from Angie, she said you can contact her on Facebook under “Angie Skinner” or the Humane Society of West Texas at 806-799-7387 or South Plains SPCA at 806-445-6317.
