Gyms in January tend to see a large influx of new members all with high hopes of fulfilling their new year’s resolution to get fit and stay in shape.

And although they just opened their doors earlier this month, Victory Fitness Ranch off of Woodrow road is seeing the same thing, but it’s not quite like your conventional gym.

Victory Fitness Ranch was created to teach and motivate individuals to learn what it takes to truly live a healthy lifestyle. The facility was originally a residence, now transformed into somewhat of a health resort.

They take in up to eight guests at a time, all who stay at the ranch for one week (although guests can choose to stay longer) where they are given one-on-one fitness training and lessons on how to shop for and prepare their own healthy meals.

Their wellness program focuses on equipping guests  in three key areas: eating well, moving well, and thinking well.

Being the first facility of its kind in the West Texas, the owners say they realized there was a need for something like this to come to the area.

“Lubbock has really good restaurants,” said Josh Holder, co-owner of Victory Fitness Ranch. “And a lot of people would benefit from knowing not only how they can stay active, how they can eat well, but also how they can continue to feel like they can enjoy life and not feel like they’re denying themselves every pleasure under the sun.

“Yes, you can go to a gym and workout on the machines and things like that, but you’re gonna get one on one hands training here,” said Angie Holder, one of the co-owners and trainers at the facility. In the gym we teach you how to use all of the equipment. we take away that fear of going into the gym and being like ‘I don’t know how to use any of this type of stuff.’ And on the nutrition side we really teach people about nutrition and it’s hands on. We take them to the grocery store, we teach them how to label read. we teach them how to shop the parameter of the store.”

“I think people are often surprised by how much they can eat and how good the food can be depending on how you prepare it because preparation is a lot of it and taking the time to do it for yourself,” said Terry Redman, the Executive Chef and Nutritional Health Coach who is also on the site.

The founders are already seeing great progress in their first bunch of guests, “We do a strength test when they come in and a strength test at the end of the week. And one person went from doing eight pushups to 28 pushups in a minute. That is outstanding.”

For the co-owners, part of the most rewarding part of their guests’ stay is seeing their overall transformation at the end of the week.

“They not only change physically, but they change emotionally as well, said Angie Holder.
