The local organization, Los Hermanos Familia, organized a veterans parade on November 12 starting at 10 a.m. for residents, students, and families to participate in Downtown Lubbock.

They said the theme of the parade was “Honoring All Who Served” to pay tribute to the U.S. military following Veterans Day.

“The people that are here, they’re nice,” local resident Linda Perry said. “They’re enjoyable. The few that did come out, it was really nice.

“Everything’s that going on, it’s good that we still honor them because without them ain’t no telling where we’d be as a country,” Lubbock resident Joshua Soliz said. “So it’s nice.”

Soliz, joined by his wife and two children, said today’s event helps educate young students on the significance of this holiday.

“If we never had them we wouldn’t ever actually have freedom or anything,” Soliz’s son Adryan Soliz said. “Never would’ve had our rights to do anything basically, if we never had the veterans.”

“It’s prosperous for the children,” Perry said. “It helps them and knowing that they need to do things and get involved with different things like this.”

The parade started at First Baptist Church and ended at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

The organization said they plan to continue this event next year.
