On June 9th, Lubbock High rising junior Isaac Lovell joined the list of 18 All-Americans in Lubbock ISD history.”It was very exciting when I found out that I got All-American,” said Lovell. “Not many people have got it through the history of Lubbock swimming and diving, and to be one of the few people that have gotten it, it’s an amazing honor.”In fact, Lovell is only the third diver in Lubbock High history to be named an All-American. The rising junior knows that he can’t relax now that he’s received the honor.”It’s definitely going to motivate me a lot more to try and beat everybody out there. Of course, there’s always going to be somebody better than you, that’s for everything every sport, anything you’ll do. But I’m always going to try my best, I’m always going to try and get myself up there, make sure that anyone that’s going to challenge me, I’ll give them a fight and if they beat me, that just proves they worked a lot harder than I did.”By the year 2024, Lovell hopes to be known as more than just an All-American, he hopes to be known as an Olympian.”Going to the Olympics has always been a dream of mine, no matter what the sport. I could have done it for basketball, wrestling, track. I never thought diving, honestly. I didn’t really watch too much Olympic diving until 2012, when I was going to start diving and then when I saw how well they dove, I thought that looked so cool and I thought it would look so cool if I was able to do that in the position they are right now.”Lovell’s coach, Penny DiPomazio, knows that for Lovell to be successful, it’s all about one thing over and over again, practice.”If you’ve watched the trials,” said DiPomazio. “It’s perfection. They all do pretty much the same dives, it’s just who does them better. And has more control, more consistency, so he just has to practice a lot and then also practice going to meets. The more meets you go to, the better you get at competing, because once you get to that level, it’s all about your head and whoever can hold it together the best, that’s the person who will be successful.”
