According to a report by the Chicago Tribune, Loyola has fired head women’s basketball coach Sheryl Swoopes after an investigation into player mistreatment within her program.
The investigation started in April after 10 out of 12 players from last year’s team requested transfers, adding to the five players that transferred after the 2014-15 season.
Swoopes a former Texas Tech Lady Raider, played under Marsha Sharp while at Texas Tech, and lead the Lady Raiders to the 1993 national championship win.
Swoopes, considered one of the best women’s basketball players ever to take the court, was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame this year. She was hired at Loyola three years ago without any coaching experience.
