Lubbock Police are conducting a death investigation after they said a man was found dead next to an I-27 frontage road near N Loop 289.
LPD said a 911 call came in around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, from two people who were riding in a construction vehicle and saw a body in a storm water run-off ditch.
“They thought they saw what appeared to be a body,” police spokesperson Tiffany Pelt said. “They circled around and when they came back and saw that it was a body that’s when they called 911.”
“Right now, we don’t know how long this individual has been there,” Pelt said. “Luckily, two people driving by actually spotted the body and that’s when they notified us.”
The frontage road was closed for several hours while police gathered evidence. A dive team from Lubbock Fire Rescue arrived to assist the Lubbock County Medical Examiner’s office remove the man from the storm water ditch.
Police used a drone at one point to provide an aerial view during the evidence collection process.
UPDATE: The Lubbock Police Department issued a statement at 4:00 p.m. on the body found.
“The ME has recovered the body. The individual appears to be a male. We will have to wait for the ME to examine the body before we have any kind of determination on cause of death or if there was any foul play.”
