Police originally released the following statement:
The Lubbock Police Department is investigating a fatal hit and run that occurred early this morning in the 1900 block of the Marsha Sharp Freeway access road.
Around 12:36 a.m., a motorist flagged down an officer near Marsha Sharp and Avenue Q stating a male was walking in the middle of the street in the eastbound access road.
The officer turned around and began to drive to the area. As he approached the 1900 block, the officer observed a deceased male lying in the road, and Accident Investigators were called to the scene.
Through the initial investigation, it appears the male was possibly hit by more than one vehicle. The driver of the vehicle that struck the male did not stay on scene and failed to stop and render aid.
Investigators found a Chevy emblem in the street near the deceased male that could possibly belong to one of the vehicles involved.
The victim’s name will be released once next of kin has been notified.
