Lubbock Police are still looking for the person who they said stole a car that had a child in the backseat at the time.

LPD said they got a call around 9 p.m. Wednesday of a pickup that was stolen from the 5000 block of 53rd Street.

Police said the victim parked in the driveway with his three year old son in the backseat of the car. While the man was talking to the child’s mother in the front yard of the home, the suspect got into the running truck, backed down the driveway, and drove off.

The victim chased after the truck and was able to hang on while the mother called police, according to police.
Police said the child’s father was eventually able to get into the bed of the truck and then break the back window, attempting to hit the suspect with a pole that was in the bed of the truck.

That’s when police said the suspect jumped out of the truck and and the car continued going until it hit a home near 56th and Peoria.

Both the father and the child were taken to the hospital. The child was not injured, but the father had some cuts and scrapes according to police.
