Lubbock Police issued the following statement:

This afternoon at approximately 12:20 p.m., the Lubbock Police Department Swat Team and agents with the Drug Enforcement Administration served a narcotics search warrant in the 2200 Block of 2nd Place.

As officers cleared the house they encountered the suspect and shots were fired. Officers recovered a firearm at the scene. No officers were injured, and tactical paramedics with Lubbock Fire and Rescue began quickly treating the suspect. He was then taken to UMC with serious injuries.

A second person inside the home is currently being questioned.

The warrant served is part of an investigation centered around the synthetic opioid Fentanyl. Due to the dangerous risk of handling this drug, a DEA hazmat crew from Dallas will process and clean the residence. Until that crew arrives, the scene has been secured.

Only one officer was involved in the shooting. That officer has been placed on paid administrative leave which is standard procedure for all officer involved shootings.

Lubbock ISD issued the following statement:

Around 12:30 this afternoon, officers from the Lubbock Police Department were executing a search warrant at a house across the street from an elementary school. The police and a suspect exchanged shots inside the home. After the incident was contained, Lubbock Police notified LISD Police and the school administration. A note was sent to parents letting them know that children had not been in danger and instruction continued normally.
