Lubbock Police said an officer was involved in an accident Wednesday afternoon in the 9800 block of Highway 87.
Police said the officer suffered moderate injuries and another driver suffered minor injuries. Both were taken by EMS to a Lubbock hospital.
LPD said, “Detective Eric Thoen with the Lubbock Police Department, while on duty, was traveling north bound on [Highway 87] when he came across debris that was creating a traffic hazard.”
“He pulled into the left lane in front of the debris to remove the hazard off the roadway,” police said. “As he was exiting the vehicle, a flatbed pickup truck collided into the back of his work vehicle.”
Video from the scene showed an unmarked car with damage to the back.
A police statement did not mention charges or citations.
