A Lubbock family is beyond thankful for a police officer who went above and beyond the call of duty to help them in a dangerous and vulnerable time.

Misty and Tim Anderson said that if it wasn’t for the officer showing up to help them, doctors said it’s very likely that Tim would have lost his life.

In the middle of the night on January 16th, Misty and Tim Anderson rushed to the hospital in a medical emergency.

“We turn onto University because we were headed toward Grace Hospital on 50th and  the car just made a huge ‘bum bum bum’ sound. Then engine completely went silent and the car just died,” Anderson said.

The couple coasted into a nearby alleyway. In desperation, Tim started walking to the hospital.

“He started across University, and I yelled back at him to give me the police dispatch number,” Anderson said.

That’s when an officer showed up and called EMS. In the meantime, he also called for back-up and they were able to push the car out of the way.

“I followed the police officer to EMS, he was going to check and see how things were going there,” Anderson said, “He asked them if I could ride along, and they said ‘No, this guy is having a heart attack and we have to run code to the hospital.'”

The officer drove Misty to Grace Clinic behind the ambulance, where he continued to offer support.

“For him to stay there with me and not just drop me off and leave me at the hospital, not knowing where to go or anything was really great. I just don’t know how to describe it,” Anderson said.

Anderson said she doesn’t like to think about what might have happened without the officer’s help.

“We would have just been stranded here, and the people at the hospital said that if we hadn’t made it when we did, he wouldn’t have made it.”
