The Lubbock Police Department reports a man was injured after falling from vehicle on Interstate 27 Monday evening while reportedly assaulting his wife.

The incident occurred in the 7700 block of Interstate 27 just after 7:30 p.m.

According to a news release from LPD, there were several reports of a man jumping out of a moving vehicle on the northbound side of I-27. Further information and calls received showed that there may have been a domestic disturbance related to this reported accident, and the male may have been hanging off of the vehicle and fell, striking his head on the pavement. LPD officers found the male at the location with believed non-life threatening injuries, and he was transported by EMS to Covenant Medical Center.

After further investigation, the case will be investigated as an aggravated assault. It has since been found, during the initial investigation, that the listed victim and suspect are married. Probable cause appears to confirm that the male (the suspect in this case) was actually hanging inside of the driver’s side window of the vehicle while trying to run alongside the vehicle. The suspect eventually fell from the vehicle, it is believed, because he intentionally pulled the steering wheel while the vehicle was in motion and while assaulting the driver/victim. Probable cause shows that, while hanging inside the window, the suspect was assaulting the driver/victim by biting her left hand. The driver/victim had a moderate injury to her right hand but refused medical treatment, the news release said.

The suspect was released pending filing of charges and due to his hospitalization for the injuries received when he fell from the vehicle. The investigation is on-going and charges should be filed against the suspect in short order once the investigation is complete, Lubbock Police said.
