Lubbock Police arrested Aaron Brandon Luna and Jared Douglas Shelton – both of Lubbock – early Sunday morning. A police officer saw a backhoe going west on 114th Street at Quaker Avenue at 2:00 a.m.
The officer initiated a traffic stop.
A police report said, “[Luna] opened the door to the backhoe, and I immediately smelled the odor of a consumed alcoholic beverage.”
The police report said Luna and Shelton were ordered to get out of the backhoe. The officer saw Shelton had a can of beer. Luna did not show any signs of intoxication according to the police report.
Luna told police his car was stuck in the mud near 114th and Milwaukee. Police called Luna’s boss who said he did have access to the backhoe for work but not for personal use at 2:00 a.m.
The report said, “[Luna] told me he was planning on driving the backhoe to his stuck vehicle, and was going to use the backhoe to pull his vehicle out of the mud.”
Luna was arrested for previous warrants. Shelton was arrested for being a minor in possession of alcohol.
The police report said, “I emptied the rest of the contents of [Shelton’s] beer in front of my DVR camera of my patrol vehicle.”
