As temperatures continue to drop, we naturally feel the need to crank up the heat and make our homes as warm as we possibly can. Matt Rose, with Lubbock Power and Light said there are a few simple things you can do to save yourself a dime or two in the long run.

1.Change and clean your air filters regularly

2.Use ceiling fans to circulate warm air in your home

3.Close doors and vents of unused rooms

4.Use LED lights for holiday decorations, they use far less electricity, burn cooler, and last longer

5.Lower the water heater 10-15 degrees to reduce the amount of fuel needed

6.Keep your unused fireplace damper closed to conserve warm air

7. Switch your television to ‘home mode’

“Each one of these steps, can save you 15% or 20% on your energy usage. Take a holistic approach to your home, and overtime that’s when you are going to see major savings over the long term. ” Rose said.
