A deputy with the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office was transported to a local hospital after he was hit by a vehicle during a pursuit early Tuesday morning, Sheriff Kelly Rowe said.
Rowe said the chase began when a street crimes operation discovered a stolen car in the early morning hours. The deputies engaged in a pursuit heading south on Highway 84 headed towards Slaton.
Rowe said Slaton Police took over and LSO “stopped and broke off.” The officers chased the vehicle back toward Lubbock, and LSO joined the chase.
At one point, three suspects bailed from the car and took off running and a deputy ran after them, Rowe said.
During the foot-chase, the deputy fell, and a Slaton police unit ran over him, Rowe explained.
“Nothing broken,” Rowe said, adding that the deputy was expected to recover.
The three suspects were taken into custody, but their charges were not immediately known.
Rowe said more information should be released Wednesday.
Slaton Police Chief Trevor Barnes was unavailable for comment Tuesday afternoon.
