Lubbock Area United Way Celebrates Volunteers

The United Way of Lubbock will be holding its annual meeting on Tuesday, January 31 at 11:30a.m. The luncheon will be held at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Banquet Hall.

“We will be celebrating all of the things we accomplished last year,” said Nicole Ashley Lee, who is the Director of Marketing and Communications at United Way.

The luncheon will honor contributors and volunteers from this past year. United Way will be presenting three separate awards to members of their community.

“We have hundreds of amazing volunteers that we want to recognize,” said Lee.

Lubbock Area United Way focuses only on agencies within the Hub City. In 2016 they raised over 6 million dollars that will all stay and be funded to help the community of Lubbock.

“We raised over 6 million dollars for the first time, it is a big accomplishment. We are always excited when we raise more money because that means we have more money to give away to our 23 community partners,” said Lee.

This past year, they celebrated their seventieth year of serving the Lubbock community.

“All the money that is raised here stays here locally. We are the ones that decide where the money goes,” said Lee.

The United Way luncheon is open to the public but seating is limited. If you are interested in attending the cost is $30 per person or $240 for a table of eight. Those interested should RSVP by phone 806-747-2711 or email events@unitedway-lubbock.org before January 27th.
