The Storm Prediction Center included Lubbock in the slight risk area for severe thunderstorms Friday evening.
KAMC’s Storm Team Meteorologist Alex O’Brien said Friday there is a slight risk of severe storms with threats including mostly hail up to 2 inches in diameter, localized flooding, winds up to 70 mph. She said there is a very small risk of an isolated tornado.
O’Brien said the first batch of thunderstorms starting around 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., will not be that strong in nature, but more activity in the jet stream Friday can cause other rounds of stronger storms to develop though the night possibly accompanied by heavy rain and wind.
These storms are expected to clear out Saturday, with temperatures climbing to the 70’s. Sunday will also have plenty of sun with temperatures in the mid 70’s.
Monday through Wednesday will be warm and sunny with temperatures nearing the 90’s on Tuesday. Wednesday will be windy, with potential wind gusts of 50 mph.
