A group of Lubbock based community banks, United Supermarkets, and the City of Lubbock have joined forces to host a community wide event aimed at supporting, honoring, and thanking Lubbock Police and all local law enforcement agencies.

The “Lubbock Law Enforcement Appreciation Night” will take place at The Buddy Holly Recreational Area in Canyon Lakes Park at N. University and Canyon Lakes Rd just inside North Loop 289 and University, Wednesday, August 3, 2016 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Free hot dogs, soft drinks, and ice cream will be served by local volunteers.

The event will feature Caldwell Entertainment with live music and special guests. “The Lubbock Police Department has done a fantastic job over the years working with us on festivals and events and we look forward to performing in their honor,” said Caldwell Entertainment owner, Don Caldwell.

The event is spearheaded by sixteen local banks. “We thought the timing was right to come together and give the community a venue to show Lubbock’s finest that we are behind them 100%,” said FirstBank & Trust Chairman & CEO Barry Orr. Orr organized the event and gathered support from the local banking community.

“As expected, the response was immediate and overwhelmingly positive. I think it will be a great night for Lubbock.”

Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope said he wants to see a big turnout. “I know this community has a deep admiration for the work these men and women do to protect our neighborhoods, streets, and lives, sometimes at great risk to themselves. I hope we can show them and their families our appreciation as we expect a big crowd on Wednesday.”

City of Lubbock organizers will announce the event location on Monday, August 1st. Tents, tables and chairs will be available and the public is also encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnic blankets.

This free public event is sponsored by Community Banks of Lubbock (including: AimBank, American Bank of Commerce, City Bank, Centennial Bank, First Capital Bank, FirstBank & Trust, First United Bank, Happy State Bank, Lone Star Bank, Lubbock National Bank, Plains Capital Bank, Platinum Bank, Peoples Bank, Prosperity Bank, Vista Bank and Western Bank) as well as United Supermarkets, Blue Bell, and the City of Lubbock.
