Members of the community reminisced over the loss of their friend, Mackenzie McCulloch, on Monday.
Wesley Foundation Director Al Martin says from the time she was a freshman at Texas Tech, Mackenzie McCulloch was a regular at her youth group.
“She was a staple, if the doors were open, she would be up here probably at least once a day, and even if I wasn’t here she would figure out how to get in.”
The 21-year-old girl was hit by a car and tragically killed after an accident on the loop.
“Right now everyone is in shock, I’ve been a fan of Facebook the last 24 hours,” Martin said, “Just because it’s been a vehicle where people are able to share stories and express some of their thoughts and love.”
Close friends got together last night to reminisce over their favorite memories with their friend Mackenzie. Martin says his favorite memory was at a youth group function when Mackenzie invited everyone to dance with her.
“She said, ‘We’re trying to dance with everybody here,’ and I said, ‘Why are you trying to do that,’ and she said ‘We just want to make them feel at home, we just want to make them feel welcomed. It’s their first week away from home at this huge university with so many people and I want them to feel loved.”
Martin said he watched Mackenzie dance with every guy or girl at the party…teaching them the jitterbug and two-step. The pastor says Mackenzie’s love for people was extraordinary.
“The way she loved…she was just very intentional with her friends and if she met you, you just knew you could count on her and she had a way of really showing she loved you…it was pretty impressive actually.”
