The Lubbock-Cooper FFA Senior Chapter Conducting team won first place at the Texas FFA State Leadership Development Events (LDE) Contest at Sam Houston State University on Saturday, December 3.
Senior Chapter Conducting is a leadership-based event that requires a student officer group to conduct a meeting in accordance with parliamentary law. Teams are given a sample meeting agenda and must complete items listed on the agenda following the rules that govern real-world legislative and deliberative meetings.
The Lubbock-Cooper High School team competed at several rounds before reaching their final event, including a practice contest at Texas Tech University, the Lubbock District FFA LDE Contest, the Area I FFA LDE Contest, and multiple qualifying heats at the Texas FFA State LDE Contest. The Lubbock-Cooper team was ranked number one out of 277 Senior Chapter Conducting teams in the state of Texas.
The State Champion team consists of ten students: Colton Bourquin (Senior), Caroline Cleveland (Senior), Addison Kostelich (Senior), Jacey Snapp (Senior), Ryan Barnwell (Junior), Aubrey Heinrich (Junior), Reagan Heinrich (Junior), Abbey Nesmith (Junior), Darbi Williams (Junior), and Cole Barnhill (Sophomore). The team’s advisor is Aaron Bednarz.
By placing first in the state, the Lubbock-Cooper FFA Senior Chapter Conducting team has qualified for the National FFA Parliamentary Procedure Contest to be held in October 2017 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Lubbock-Cooper FFA’s Agricultural Issues team placed second in their contest, earning the State Runner-Up title. The organization’s Public Relations team placed ninth in State finals. Both of these teams were advised by Angie Snapp.
