New Hope Academy, Lubbock-Cooper ISD’s new alternative campus, will open its doors this fall to students seeking traditional education in a non-traditional environment.
New Hope Academy will be open to Lubbock-Cooper High School juniors and seniors in situations that may make learning in the conventional high school environment less feasible, including students who work to support their families or themselves, students who serve as the primary caretakers of family members, students who are older than traditional high school students, students who are pregnant or raising children, or students with unique social circumstances.
“Our goal is to meet the needs of each and every one of our students,” said Lubbock-Cooper Superintendent Keith Bryant. “Some students may have unique schedules, or require a non-traditional environment. We want those students to have the same opportunity to succeed that all students deserve. New Hope Academy will allow these students to earn their high school diplomas while working at a pace and in an environment best suited for them on an individualized level.”
Students will be accepted into New Hope Academy through an application process, which will require students to provide attendance records and most recent grades, among other information.
“New Hope Academy will provide each student with the skills necessary to plot his or her own course, graduate, and become positive, productive, and happy members of the community,” said New Hope Academy Principal Dave Paschall. “Whether a student’s plan includes college, vocational training, or entry into the work force, we want to give them every opportunity to realize their dreams.”
Students interested in enrolling at New Hope Academy can find an enrollment application online at www.lcisd.net.
New Hope Academy is named for one of the five small farm community schools consolidated to form Cooper Rural School in 1936. The original New Hope School was constructed in 1911, a one-room schoolhouse southeast of the City of Lubbock.
