The Lubbock County Judicial Compliance is one of a number of agencies across the state taking part in the Great Texas Warrant Roundup of 2016.

Over the last few weeks, the office has been sending out notices to people with outstanding warrants, as well as making follow up phone calls.

Shan Alexander, the director of Judicial Compliance, said they have roughly about 2,000 outstanding warrants. These warrants are strictly for Lubbock County.

“In this particular case, like I said before, we have cases that we set up on payment arrangements for court costs and fines,” Alexander said. “So if you were adjudicated in one of those 9 courts that are here in the courthouse, then more than likely, if you couldn’t afford to pay your court cost, you’d come through our office.”

Alexander said they have been sending out notices in the mail and making phone calls to those with these warrants in the last few weeks, letting them know about the situation.

“We’re really trying to exercise every avenue that we can to try to communicate with folks, to let them know. And that’s the thing I really want to stress to that, too, is with the warrant roundup it’s not about, you pay off your fines and you go to jail,” Alexander said.

“In this particular office, we offer them the opportunity to, depending on the circumstances, bring money in, we’ll see if we can try to work with you to re-establish an agreement,” he said.

Alexander said people have until Friday, March 4 to take care of their warrants.

“Starting on March 5, will actually be the day where law enforcement go out throughout the communities and actually start serving these warrants. That process will go on through the middle of March,” Alexander said.
