A Lubbock family was in San Antonio Friday for a graduation on Lackland Air Force Base, when the base was put into a lockdown.
The lockdown on the base lasted for a few hours.
Rosary Duran said she and her family, who were there to see her daughter graduate, were not with her daughter at the time of the lockdown.
“We all were put into a room, where they were going to do the ceremony,” Duran said. “The lights were turned out, and all the doors were locked. And we were told just to be quiet and we’d get further instructions.”
Duran said they would occasionally get updates on the situation.
“Of course I start worrying about my daughter, because she wasn’t in the same room with us,” she said. “You worry about who you know is in the base and you worry about them and try to figure out where they are.”
According to base officials, two people were found dead. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Department said the situation appeared to be a murder-suicide.
“Once they lifted the lockdown, we were told that we were good, the graduation would be starting, and so we proceeded with the graduation, and went through the whole thing,” Duran said.
