Lubbock Family Not Giving Up Hope in Search of Answers to 2014 Shooting

The Ramirez family is still searching for answers as to what may have led to the shooting that killed Robert Ramirez Sr., and sent his son, Robert Ramirez Jr., to the hospital in the early morning hours of September 5, 2014.

“We just take it day by day hoping someone will say something and speak up so he can have justice,” said his daughter, Alexis Ramirez.

On Sunday, June 9, the family will celebrate Ramirez’s 46th birthday at the Lubbock cemetery with a balloon release. They believe that although he is gone, they won’t stop celebrating his life.

“We’re going to keep him alive as long as we can, you know? Basically forever and he’s not going anywhere ,” said Jeff Rodriguez, Ramirez’s nephew.

While it may be a somber gathering, Rodriguez says the family intends on sharing happy memories with one another.

“He [Ramirez] loved spending time with his family and putting people first and making sure that we’re taken care of and he was just like a loving person to be around,” said Alexis Ramirez.

Rodriguez shared that his uncle was fondly referred to as ‘The Bossman” by his friends and family, and that he was “spoiled” growing up as the youngest of eight siblings.

“He’d say ‘don’t give up, I mean you can accomplish anything. Just if you don’t think you can do it just try again. If you don’t think you can do it, call me I’ll come help you we’ll figure something out,'” said Rodriguez remembering his uncle’s advice to him growing up.

The homicide occurred around 2 a.m. on Sept. 5 at the 1800 block of 49th street. The suspects were last seen driving a Dodge Magnum. One suspect is a black male about 5’7 with shoulder length dreads.
