One Lubbock family is bringing a food truck to Lubbock as a part of their goal to end hunger in the city, and for the homeless community especially.

The food truck will be called “Mels on Wheels” (not to be confused with Meals on Wheels”) after wife, co-founder and chef, Melanie Lowrance.

“It’s been very exciting. It’s been a dream of ours for a few years now, so we’re excited to see things falling in place,” said Mrs. Lowrance.

Bradley Lowrance, co-founder of “Mels On Wheels,” says that the two have always enjoyed being able to give back to the community and that through this food truck, they can continue to do so in a fun, more hands-on way.

“It was just a dream, a shot in the dark that we wanted to start our own food truck,” said Bradley Lowrance. “I told her, I said, ‘wouldn’t it be neat if we had a way to come out and just feed the homeless anytime we wanted?'”

The couple says that is through the support of their family that this dream has been able to become more of a reality. Right now, they’re working on fundraising for the truck and the materials needed for it to run.

The game plan is for “Mels on Wheels”  to be up and in business by early spring. They want to set up the food truck throughout the week for everyone in the community to visit, but on Sundays and alternating Mondays, they will head out to city parks and areas that typically attract members of the homeless community.

“And if you’ll meet us down here at the local park, or we’ll come to you,” said Mr. Lowrance. “Tell us where you guys, where you want to meet us at and let’s feed everyone on a Sunday. That way, we know at least when we go to bed on Sunday, we know that there’s maybe less hungry people out there in Lubbock as a whole.”

The family also says any support from the community to assist them with expenses for the truck and other materials is greatly appreciated. If you would like to help “Mels On Wheels” and the Lowrance family’s mission to feed the city’s homeless, you can visit their Gofundme page here.
