In 1989, Lubbock Fire Rescue hired the first female firefighter.  Since then the numbers haven’t changed much.

We sit down with four women, Sharon Moore, Angie Aldape, Brandi Speiser, and Grace Feldman, who are firefighters with Lubbock Fire Rescue and talk about the challenges of the job.  The heartbreak they see on calls and how they deal with it, the risks they face in being in the firefighting career, plus the time away from their families.

They say there are so many advantages to the job and even though they feel like they have to work harder to stay in tip top shape they love what they do and are just as much a part of the brotherhood as the men.

It’s like a family and they tell us their thoughts.

Lubbock Fire Rescue is always looking to hire more women for the job.  You can find more information at www.mylubbock.us
