Lubbock Fire Responds to Central Lubbock House Fire Early Wednesday Morning

Lubbock Fire Rescue was called to a report of a house fire just before 2 a.m. Wednesday in central Lubbock.

Fire crews got the call around 1:50 a.m. of a report of a house on fire near 22nd St. and Avenue U. Lubbock Police and EMS were also called to respond to the scene.

Units arrived to find two male adult victims in the front yard. The front rooms of the house were fully involved, and about 80% of the house suffered damage.

According to LFR, one victim had been sleeping in a bedroom and the other was sleeping on a living room couch. Both men woke up to smoke in the house and were able to make it out of the house on their own. Only one of the of the victims will be displaced as a result of the fire.

It appears that earlier in the evening, the men were using the fireplace as a warming fire. There were no working smoke detectors in the residence.

The Lubbock Fire Marshal’s office was called to investigate. They have ruled the fire as accidental, and the cause is yet to be determined. The investigation is now closed. However, anyone with information that may be useful to police or Lubbock fire, is encouraged to contact Crimeline at 806-741-1000 or, Lt. Michael Jones at 806-775-2641.
