Torrential rain led to several reports of impassible streets and a few water rescues in Lubbock Wednesday afternoon.  One such water rescue was reported at 23rd Street and Peoria Avenue.  There were also weather-related accidents including one reported near 34th Street and West Loop 289.

Lubbock Fire Rescue requested police block certain intersections because of high water.

As of 5:46 pm, the city listed the following as closed via Twitter:

  • Cesar Chavez & Broadway
  • McKenzie Park (entire park)
  • Avenue W from 22nd – 25 th

Marsha Sharp Freeway at University Avenue was closed down late in the afternoon with traffic diverted to the access roads. 

Viewers reported terrible traffic conditions at Upland Avenue and Marsha Sharp Freeway, 75th Street and Slide Road, 24th Street and Quaker Avenue and a few locations.

The Texas Tech campus received 2.06 inches as of 4:50 pm Wednesday. 

The KAMC Live Weather Now network recorded 0.98 inches of rain Wednesday but the number rose to 3.16 from Monday to Wednesday afternoon.  The 24-hour total for Wolfforth was 2.96. 

Texas Tech University issued a statement on Twitter, saying, “Flooding is occurring near and around the #TexasTech campus. Avoid low-lying areas, do not drive into flooded roads.”
