There are three days until the Super Bowl and everyone is gearing up for the big day.

“It’s the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl, so I’m super excited to meet people and just be in that atmosphere,” says Brian Blackwell, with UPNIN Inc. here in Lubbock. Blackwell is actually heading to Santa Clara, California on Friday morning for both work and personal enjoyment.

“I’m a big Broncos fan. I’m a big supporter of Peyton Manning and I like the Broncos and what they’ve done. Hopefully they’ll get a Super Bowl victory,” says Blackwell.

These tickets aren’t just for the bandwagoners. They take some true team dedication for the price the tickets go for.

“Face value on these are like $1,000, which is for seats that aren’t so great at the very top. I think the face value goes all the way up to $1,500, but the cheapest tickets on StubHub right now are $3,200 dollars for nose bleed-type tickets,” says Blackwell.

For those staying local for the big game, many sports bars around town are getting ready as well. One of those is Back 40 Grill off 98th and Slide.

“I have a buddy that’s going to come in and DJ from 3:00 to 5:30 leading up to kickoff–doing trivia, playing music, and just kind of trying to raise the energy level and create a fun atmosphere to get everybody ready for the game,” says General Manager and Owner, Troy Davidson.

Davidson says he wants to create a party atmosphere to entice people by including food and drink specials, which he has made adjustments on since last year.

“This year, we’re going to kind of go about things a little different. We’ve done a better job at promoting the fact that we’re going to be open, that’s why we’re adding a DJ for this year. We’re going to do more aggressive drink specials. We did not run a food special last year, and so this year we’re going to run a wings and pizza special just to try to help the atmosphere and hopefully motivate people to come in and watch the game here rather than going to a friend’s house or hanging out at their own house,” he says.

“Hopefully with an atmosphere and a venue like this where we have all these TVs–we’re going to make it loud, we’re going to make it roudy and try to make it feel like you’re actually tailgating at the Super Bowl itself,” Davidson adds.
