One Lubbock woman reporting complaints to the Lubbock Codes department about overgrown weeds in her neighborhood.
“Enough is enough,” said Central Lubbock homeowner Sue Winn.
The main concern for Winn who has lived along 25th street and Louisville for nearly 15 years are the overgrown weeds.
“We keep our yard mowed as you can tell, and this all blows over in my yard so I have to fight weeds constantly,” said Winn.
According to city codes “uncultivated vegetation” is in violation of city ordinance if weeds are more than eight inches high.
Winn stood on a patch of weeds that reached up to her knees, she is 5’5. She said her neighbors home is rented out and the property has weeds way past the City ordinance.
“There ought to be some rules laid down that if you rent the property, the property owner is not going to be held accountable, the person renting the property should be held accountable,” said Winn.
City rules are in place that the property owner gets a bill from the City of Lubbock for the cost of the mowing plus a $150 administrative fee.
“And [the fee should] keep going up expediently until you can’t afford to pay it,” said Winn. “So, you have to move out or clean it up.”
City of Lubbock code enforcement said they are aware of Winn’s complaints. They have plans on mowing and cleaning out the affected area in the next few days.
