Students from 35 campuses in the Lubbock Independent School District spend their Saturday morning competing to the title of top speller.
The Lubbock ISD Spelling Bee was held in the auditorium at Irons Middle School.
The event began at 9:00 a.m. with a practice round.
A spokesman for the school district told EverythingLubbock.com the winner was Shepard Shurmur.
Shurmur is a 7th grader at Hutchinson Middle School and will move on to compete in the area regionals next month.
