Two Lubbock ISD teams finished in the top two among 1,500 global competitors last week at the Destination Imagination (DI) Global Finals in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Tie DI Locks team from Waters Elementary School ranked first out of 65 teams in the Service Learning Challenge Ready, Willing and Fable. This year marks the seventh in a row a team from Waters has ranked in the top ten in the world. The Tie DI Locks team is: Rylee O’Brien, Keira Britt, Loren Fritch, Kendall Hewlett, Laila Morano, Eleni Pruitt and Mira Ramirez. The team is coached by Stephany McDougal and Wendi Britt.

The Camo Legends team from Harwell Elementary School tied for second place in the Scientific Challenge Top Secret, competing against more than 60 teams. The Camo Legends team is: Dylan Flores, Frankie Garcia, Narriah Gomez, Kason Grimaldo, Alyna Larez and Kenia Ramirez. The team is coached by Bethany Shropshire, Cindy Shropshire and Veronica Cuevas.

Six Lubbock ISD teams competed at the Global Finals, representing Cavazos and Talkington Middle Schools and Harwell, Parsons, Roscoe Wilson and Waters Elementary Schools.

Destination Imagination, Inc. is an educational nonprofit dedicated to teaching students the skills needed to succeed in school, their careers and beyond. DI competition requires teams to work creatively and collaboratively to solve problems or “challenges” without assistance from adults or any non-team members. DI teams that advance past Regional and Affiliate Tournaments are invited to participate in Global Finals – the culminating event of each DI season. Each May, more than 1,400 of the top-scoring DI teams from 45 U.S. states and 14 countries gather in Knoxville, Tennessee for the competition.
