Marcos Daniel Chairez, 25, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a federal charge called Transportation of a Minor With Intent to Engage in Criminal Sexual Activity.

The original criminal complaint said Chairez was downloading child pornography including video of a girl “approximately 5 to 7 years of age” in sexual intercourse with an adult man.

An investigation of peer-to-peer distribution of child pornography videos led federal investigators to Chairez in the summer of 2015.

Further investigation showed that in December of 2010, Chairez traveled from El Paso to West Monroe, Louisiana to pick up a 13-year-old girl.  By crossing state lines, it became a federal offense.

Chairez admitted to brining the girl back to El Paso and having sex with her.  The girl was described in court records as a foster child.  He admitted to trading sexual messages with her – starting when she was 11.

Chairez will be sentenced at a later date to no less than 10 years in prison and not more than life in prison.  He was held Friday in the Lubbock County Detention Center.

Chairez was listed on his jail booking sheet as a Lubbock resident, and federal court records said he had a residence in El Paso prior to moving into a Lubbock apartment. His driver license indicated an address in Plainview.
