Lubbock Man Gets 40 Years for Shooting, Injuring Man Outside United Grocery Store

Edward Tremayne Johnson, 23, of Lubbock was sentenced Thursday to 40 years in prison for the November 2015 shooting and injury of Robert Rivera in the parking lot of United Supermarket.

Police were called to the store at 2630 Parkway Drive to find Rivera suffering from potentially life-threatening injuries.  Police said an argument led to the shooting.

In court proceedings it was revealed that Johnson’s criminal history included arrests for burglary, theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and several charges involving illegal drugs. In court it said he was known for selling crack cocaine.

The same judge that found him guilty at trial, the honorable John J. McClendon, told Johnson Thursday that he already been given a second chance before and didn’t make use of it.
