The Lubbock Meals on Wheels Organization hosted their 18th annual Mardi Gras fundraiser on Tuesday, February 28, 2016 from 5:30-9:00 PM.

Executive Director, Lisa Gilliland said there was 39 local restaurants who served sample sizes of their favorite dishes, a silent auction with nearly 300 items, face painting for children, a cash bar, as well as live music from the band Element.

“Well you know we are not government funded nor are we a United Way funded agency,” Gilliland said. “This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, last year we raised $100,000 so we’re hoping to top that this year.”

Rodney Allen with Red Robin Gourmet Burger said they have attended the event for the past three years.

“It’s a really neat celebration and Red Robin wants to be involved in the community,” Allen said. “It helps Meals on Wheels bring money to the organization.”

Cody Williams with Cody’s Red Balloon has provided balloons for the event for years, he said his grandmother has been a Meals on Wheels client and the organization has a special place in his heart.

“Balloons bring everything to life, they bring so much energy and such a pop, we like to do something different for them every year,” Williams said.
