Lubbock Meals on Wheels to Provide Emergency Winter Meals on Monday, October 31

With cold and hazardous weather on its way (we think), Lubbock Meals on Wheels is once again providing emergency meals to the homebound, elderly, and disabled people of our community.  If Lubbock Meals on Wheels’ deliveries are canceled due to inclement weather, our homebound neighbors will have a “healthy meal in a box,” at their fingertips.  This year we have included enough food to replace two lunches, if necessary.

Through a grant from the Lubbock Lions Club, Lubbock Meals on Wheels has purchased non-perishable, shelf-stable food items, such as soup, crackers, applesauce, oatmeal, and juice for 850 emergency boxes. Each Lubbock Meals on Wheels’ recipient will receive an emergency box.  In the event of a “snow/ice day,” local media will be notified that Lubbock Meals on Wheels will not deliver and recipients will be instructed to use their emergency meal kit.

On Monday, October 31, at 10:30 a.m., Lubbock Meals on Wheels’ volunteers will deliver the emergency meal boxes to recipients.

If additional Emergency Meal boxes become necessary, they will be provided for the remainder of the winter.  Lubbock Meals on Wheels is accepting donations of canned soup(10.5oz size) through the winter months. This soup will be used if we do have to send out a second meal this winter.

Lubbock Meals on Wheels is a private non-profit organization, preparing and delivering hot, nutritious noon-time meals, each weekday, to over 700 people in Lubbock, Idalou, and Abernathy helping them remain at home, well fed, and independent.
