Becky Garcia created the campaign “Team Montoya” after her son Tristan Montoya was diagnosed with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia, also known as HSP.
Montoya was diagnosed at the age of nine and is the only known case in Lubbock, TX. However, Garcia said her two daughters are also starting to show symptoms.
According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, HSP, “refers to a group of inherited disorders that are characterized by progressive weakness and spasticity (stiffness) of the legs.” You can find more information on the disease on their website here.
Altitude Trampoline Park hosted the fundraiser and donated a portion of their sales to the family.
