The City of Lubbock and Civic Lubbock on Thursday announced Lubbock Music NOW as a way to promote local artists. During the month of April, local artists can submit original works. Rules and links to more information were included in a written statement:
Civic Lubbock, Inc. is pleased to announce an exciting new project to promote Lubbock music: Lubbock Music NOW. It’s the frame of a picture of life in the Hub City. It’s the artists grinding it out night after night providing a soundtrack for our evenings. It’s the songs being written now that may endure for years to come. The purpose of the project is to honor and recognize musicians currently living in the Lubbock area “working the local circuit” and to give our citizens and visitors a taste of the original music being played on the local scene. It’s a time capsule of music!
Lubbock Music NOW 2016 will be the inaugural year of the project with a CD produced every year made up entirely of original music by local area artists. After reviewing the criteria for song submissions, those artists/bands wishing to submit their original music for consideration will need to complete an application. Once their application is approved, the artists will be asked to submit one original song in digital format to a designated online account. Submitted tracks will be narrowed down and final selections for the CD will be made by current and former members of the Texas branch of The Recording Academy (Texas Grammy Board). Those artists selected for the CD will receive a $200 prize fee and be included in an elite group of local artists whose music will be made available to the public as well as visitors to the area in a unique way. The CD will sell for $20 and proceeds will be utilized for producing future editions of Lubbock Music NOW.
The criteria for song submission includes:
One song per artist; a band will count as one artist, but if a member of that band has their own solo project, they may also submit an entry as an individual artist
Artists may not already have a record deal in place or be signed with a label
All songs must be original – no covers. Professional recorded songs from studios or live performances are accepted. Songs may not exceed 6 minutes in length
Artists must live within 100 miles of the Lubbock city limits
Artists must have played at least two paying gigs in Lubbock within the last year
The Lubbock Music NOW 2016 Application Form will be available on Civic Lubbock, Inc.’s website (www.civiclubbock.com) beginning Friday, April 1, 2016. The deadline to submit applications is Saturday, April 30, 2016. Late applications will not be considered. Completed and signed applications may be emailed to LubbockMusicNow@civiclubbock.com or mailed/postmarked no later than April 30, 2016 to: Civic Lubbock, Inc., 1501 Mac Davis Ln, Lubbock, TX 79401. The target date for release of the Lubbock Music NOW 2016 CD is October of 2016 and an event will be planned to celebrate its release.
