On Friday, May 13, 2016 at approximately 6:17 a.m. patrol officers responded to a report of disturbance at the Koko Inn, 5201 S. Q Drive. A night watchman working for the Koko Inn saw the suspect was asleep in a 2016 Hyundai passenger vehicle in the east parking lot. The watchman approached the vehicle to check the status of the suspect. He awakened the suspect and the suspect displayed a handgun. The watchman turned and began walking away when he saw the suspect point a laser at his chest. The night watchman believed the suspect pointed a gun equipped with a laser pointer at him.

Officers arrived and surrounded the vehicle. They observed the suspect in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Officers used a loud speaker to give the suspect verbal commands to exit the vehicle. After several attempts to get the suspect to exit, officers opened the driver and passenger doors in order to take the suspect into custody. The suspect immediately began fighting with the officers. During the struggle the suspect dropped a handgun that was equipped with a laser pointer. He was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Facility and booked in. Neither the suspect nor officers were injured.
