Lubbock Police said in a release Wednesday morning that 33-year-old Texas Tech student Jeffrey Hargrove is still listed as missing, however they believe he is in the Lubbock area and not in immediate danger. Police added that they are still actively working the case, “to locate Mr. Hargrove so we can check on his welfare.”

Hargrove was last seen on November 5, the day he went to the Texas Tech v. University of Texas football game, then checked in at the Overton Hotel where he planned to stay for the night. His mother spoke with him on the phone that evening.  Family members said that all communication with Hargrove stopped after that point and that his phone, wallet, and room key were found in his hotel room. Hargrove was not found.

This fall, Hargrove returned to Texas Tech to finish the final semester of his undergraduate degree studying business. His family said that he is just weeks away from finishing his final class.

Hargrove’s family members flew in from Florida over the past week to help search for him, they have looked around Lubbock, passing out fliers to everyone they meet. Lubbock Police had Hargrove listed last week as an endangered missing person.

In a previous interview with EverythingLubbock.com, Hargrove’s mother described the whole ordeal as “a nightmare.”

Christine Hoover, Hargrove’s sister said Wednesday morning, “Jeffrey is still missing, no one has seen him, the search is still going on.”

When EverythingLubbock.com asked Salvation Army of Lubbock is Hargrove was staying with them, Erica Hitt, director of social services there replied, “We have not made contact with that individual.” Hitt said that someone they believed to be a family member of Hargrove called their office Wednesday morning, asking if he had checked in with them under another name.

“That would be a hard thing to do, but we are looking into that,” Hitt explained. She added that as the weather gets colder they will continue to keep an eye out for Hargrove, and that when temperatures dip below freezing Salvation Army will be working to give anyone they find on the streets a place to stay.

Paul’s Project in Lubbock also said that they haven’t seen Hargrove. “We are on the lookout for him, we have a missing poster up for everyone to see,” said Roy Johnson of Paul’s project.

Anyone with information about Hargrove’s disappearance is asked to call Crime Line at (806)741-1000. Callers can remain anonymous.
