A police chase early Friday morning ended with one suspect hiding in an RV at Billy Sims Trailer Town and another suspect hiding in a trash can.
Police arrested Kevin Knowles, 26, and Chelsea Clark, 27.
Police said, “At approximately 1:11 a.m. this morning, an officer observed a Ford Explorer traveling north in the 7700 block of University without its headlights on.”
Instead of stopping, the driver led police on a chase to the 1600 block of South Loop 289. Police briefly lost sight of the Explorer but found it wrecked.
“The vehicle had hit a fence and several RVs at the Billy Sims Trailer Town,” police said.
Knowles and Clark ran from the Explorer but police found a third person still inside.
“A K9 unit located the passenger, … Clark, inside a nearby trashcan,” police said. “[Officers] eventually found … Knowles hiding inside one of the RVs.”
“Officers also located a shotgun that Knowles had thrown out the vehicle during the beginning of the pursuit,” police said.
Knowles was charged with evading police, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and failure to leave information after an accident. Clark was charged with evading and trespassing.
Both were held in the Lubbock County Detention Center.
A police statement did not mention any charges or injuries concerning the third person in the car.
If the name Kevin Knowles sounds familiar, it’s because he made news in February. He was apprehended by a good Samaritan after a hit and run crash. Knowles was not the driver. The driver and three passengers ran from the scene.
Police at the time said, “Knowles was arrested for an outstanding warrant for a parole violation.”
