LUBBOCK, Texas — Lubbock Police and EMS were called to a shooting just before 3:00 pm Friday in the 1800 block of 3rd Street.
The police front desk confirmed there was a shooting incident with one person injured. A few minutes later, a police spokesperson said a man was taken to a Lubbock hospital with serious injuries.
A teenage eyewitness told our reporter at the scene that his dad was the one to get shot. He said the suspect (police have not publicly named the suspect yet) texted his dad with a threat to come get him. The two knew each other.
The eyewitness said his dad was outside the apartment shooting fireworks with other family members when the suspect shot him.
The eyewitness said the suspect then left in a pickup truck after the shooting.
Lubbock Police released the following update early Friday evening:
Just before 3 p.m., the Lubbock Police Department received a report of shots fired at the Casa Orlando Apartment complex located in the 1800 block of 3rd Street. Officers arrived and located a 29-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his leg. An officer began applying aid to the victim until EMS arrived. At this time, his injuries appear to be serious, but non-life threatening.
Through the initial investigation, it appears a male suspect fired multiple shots at the victim after a brief verbal altercation. The suspect then fled the area before officers arrived.
No arrests have been made at this time. This case remains under investigation.
Lubbock Police released a second update Friday evening:
The suspect in the shooting, 18-year-old Fernando Jimenez, was just arrested by Texas Anti-Gang Center investigators in the area of FM 1729 near East 4th Street.
Jimenez is charged with aggravated assault and will be booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center. The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the arrest.
