The Parks and Recreation Department received multiple complaints this summer about violators not following park rules. Bridget Faulkenberry, the Parks and Recreations Director, said her staff is now working with the Lubbock Police Department to enforce the rules.
“Some things we’re focusing on right now are no driving on the parks because that can really mess up our irrigation and the turf, no alcohol use in the park and we are asking people to pick up their trash,” Faulkenberry said.
Violators could face fines or penalties.
“We have requested that police have a bigger presence in the parks, and they can write tickets and even arrest people who are not following rules,” Faulkenberry said.
Families who attend parks on a regular basis may not be aware of the rules and regulations. Shaniqua Myers, a mother of two, said she didn’t really know what the park rules were, and she just tries to keep her kids safe.
“I tell them all the time they need to be aware of their surroundings and if they see any type of adults that are just there and follow them, they need to let me know that they’ve seen someone following them,” Myers said.
The list of unlawful activities within parks can be found on the City of Lubbock’s website.
