Lubbock Police are investigating several break-in’s that took place at local churches over the last month.
On December 29th, New Generation Apostolic Church was the victim of a break-in. Church Secretary and Pastor’s Wife Rosario Covaburrio said the burglar broke into the sanctuary and took a keyboard and bass guitar, together valued at almost $2,000.
“Things were knocked over, I mean, it was just complete violation. This was a secure place for us a knowing the door was busted open and everything…heartbreaking.”
The burglar pried open a side door to enter. The church has since barricaded every entrance to the sanctuary.
“It wasn’t as much about the instruments as it was that they intruded in the house of God,” Covaburrio said, “It hurt more because we open our doors to everybody and just knowing that somebody would come in and do that it was a little bit upsetting.”
New Generation wasn’t the only place of worship hit over the holidays. Other churches including Fountain of Life and St. John Neumann also suffered similar cases of burglary and vandalism.
“Just to know that it wasn’t just happening here was nerve-wracking, because you know we have fellow pastors at other churches that are friends of ours, not just friends but brothers and sisters through Christ,” Covaburrio said, “To know that their places were getting broken into as well….that just really hurt.”
Despite the circumstances, the church has a message for whoever committed this crime.
“Repent for your sins and just know that we all love you, we love you regardless and we’re praying for you and just hope that whatever it is you’re going through that you make it through,” Covaburrio said,
