Update: Lubbock Police identified the stabbing suspect as Jimmy Nguyen, 27. Police said his next of kin has been notified.

At approximately 2:30 this morning, Lubbock Police received a call about a burglary at 2520 41st Street.
When police arrived, they found the 64-year-old victim covered in blood with serious injuries. The suspect was deceased, and homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate.
The victim told police he heard a loud noise and then saw the suspect run out of a back room of his apartment. The suspect then attacked and stabbed the victim.
The victim was able to fight back and stab the suspect. The victim then went to a neighbor’s home and asked them to call police.
The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but they are not believed to be life threatening. No charges have been filed at this time, and this is an ongoing investigation.
The suspect’s name will not be released until next of kin has been notified.
