Lubbock Police were called to the Villa Town motel in the 5400 block of South Q Drive just before 11:00 a.m. Wednesday for the report of a dead child.
“It’s an unattended death, said Lieutenant Ray Mendoza. “We investigate all of those.”
Under state law, unattended can mean a person who dies without having been attended by a physician. Mendoza said the child’s mother was present.
EMS called police because a “very young child” was not breathing. Police said there were no obvious signs of trauma.
“We don’t know if it was SIDS or a suffocation or a homicide or accidental; we have to wait on the autopsy,” Mendoza said.
Names and other details were not yet released.
