One Lubbock Police officer caught the attention of drivers when he was spotted lending a helping hand to a man whose truck had broken down at the intersection of Quaker and fourth.

On Monday afternoon, Sergeant Corey Nunely pulled over to try to push the truck onto the curb and out of the street. When Nunely began to push, it was then that other drivers began to stop and try to help him, something he said is pretty common here in Lubbock.

“I’m not as strong as I used to be, so pushing that big truck by myself gets a little heavier and even pushing up a curb and those other two made the difference and so the four of us got it up on the curb,” said Nunely.

Nunely said the driver did the right thing by staying in the car with a seatbelt and calling for a tow company. Onlookers like, Roxey Benevedes said she couldn’t help but take a picture of the officer stopping to push by himself.

“How nice it is to see something so kind, and for him to take, time out of his day to not only be a cop but to be a person and to help each other,” said Benevedes.

Sergeant Corey Nunely said it’s the appreciation from the community like this that makes him proud to be a police officer for the Lubbock Police Department.
